the Villages of Christmas Island
Your first view of Christmas Island is a watercolor of pale sands and turquoise waters stretching to the horizon. The lagoon on the Christmas Island atoll is 125 sq. miles of azure flats surrounded by white beaches and coconut palms. Ankle deep to thigh deep water harboring unbelievable quantities of bonefish, trevally, and barracuda stretches for miles all around you. Join us for a saltwater fly fishing adventure that has to be experienced to be believed. The Villages is unique in that it is the only lodge in the shores of the famed Christmas Island Lagoon. Each morning you will walk from your beachfront cabin to the boat and within 10 to 15 minutes you will step off into 85 degree water and begin to stalk bonefish. Christmas Island is located about 1200 miles south of Honolulu and is the largest atoll in the world, encompassing about 250 square miles. The lagoon is a maze of deep blue channels and white sand flats loaded with the local bonefish. There are also miles of narrow flats and shallow reef zones on the ocean sides of the island that can be waded and fished when the tides are favorable. In addition to bonefish, the flats and channels contain trevally (giant, blue fin and golden), goatfish, puffers and yellow snapper, all of which will grab your bonefish fly. Not enough species for you? Go offshore and yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado, sailfish and many other bluewater denizens will stretch your line. We have reserved the Villages for 6 days and seven nights from May 20th – 27th 2008 to take advantage of high tides, which bring the larger bonefish onto Paris flats in significant numbers. Call Les or Ken for more information on this adventure. If you’ve never caught a bonefish this is the place to get it done. It will bring a smile to your face.
